July 2—Farewell to Malawi
Hey guys! We are in the final countdown here in Malawi with only a few days left before returning to Ft. Myers. It is hard to believe our stay is almost over! Last weekend we had the opportunity to visit Liwonde National Park. We stayed in little “chalets” next to the river, surrounded by beautiful woods; we had monkeys in the trees right outside our windows!... More

June 25—Two weeks left
Muli bwanji? That is the common greeting in Malawi, which means, “how are you?” We are doing well here in Lilongwe. It is hard to believe that we only have two short weeks left before returning to Ft. Myers. To recap from this past week... More

June 17—Excited and learning a lot!
We are excited to be writing you once more from Malawi! We have been here for almost two weeks and have been learning a lot about the culture. The three day HIV seminar for pastors and church leaders went well, and we have had another seminar since for a group of men and woman who are living with HIV/AIDS. We could not have presented any of the material without the help of our two translators, Jethro and Eunice. They are our age and have helped us understand more about the Malawian culture... More

June 9—We Have Arrived

48 hours of travel time (minus a six hour time difference), 3 plane rides, a layover in South Africa, and 300 pounds of luggage later… we’ve made it to Malawi! Larry and Mandy have made us feel at home here in Lilongwe, and we have enjoyed our stay thus far. On Sunday we joined a congregation in a village just outside the city. We were welcomed with open arms and bright smiling faces. Praises soared through the tin roof of this small church, and it was a great experience to share the Lord’s Supper with our brothers and sisters halfway around the world. Monday was spent....

June 2—Meet the HIVHope Malawi Team
Michael Krepps is excited to be leading the HIVHope team this summer.  He has been an affiliate of NMSI since 2007 and is currently studying at Colorado Christian University.  He is looking forward to seeing how God works in the lives of his teammates over the summer.

Darcie Volkens just graduated with her Bachelors in Nursing from Cole College in Iowa.  She's thrilled to be answering God's call to serve in Africa in HIV education.  She's looking forward to meeting a bunch of new people and immersing herself into a different culture this summer.

Sara Wissmann is a student at Truman State University in Missouri and will be a senior this fall.  She is majoring in Health Science with a focus on Community and Public Health.  Serving in Africa has always been a dream of hers. She is looking forward to blessing these individuals and being blessed by the Malawian people in return. More

HI Sara, thanks for keeping your family and friends informed of what you are doing in Malawi. We sure miss you, but we know that in some wonderful way God is working through you, the team, and the missionaries. Thankfully you also have some help with the language there. We always check to see if you have sent a new message. It all sounds exciting, but we also know it's a lot of work too. Ryan is taking 17 hours this year at Truman.. he will be busy! Things are going well at home. We pray God's Blessings to all. Take care.

Dear bunny,
Hello friend :) I just read your email you sent me June 16. I am so excited about how much you've grown and matured in the past 3 years. As I read the update, I couldn't help but think about something you said in Kenya 3 years... about spiritually being asleep. I shook my head in disbelief as I read how elegant and joyful you spoke about God's work all around you. I was at NMSI just last weekend and I thought I'd see you. No such luck! I saw your mom and dad and we discussed marriage plans for us... I'll let you know our wedding colors when you get home, til then... take care :)

Mike,

Thanks so much for the updates! It's great hearing from you - and hearing about the amazing places you've been. In the moments I'm not jealous of you I'll be sure to pray for your team, as well as for Malawi and the community you are serving. I will also be sure to give thanks to God for what He has done in your life - we can rejoice together in that.

Love.
